Operation Clean Sweep Hiwassee Lake

This past Saturday, Pav got the kids up before dawn and headed down to Hiwassee Lake for a big lake cleanup project.  This yearly event brought in more than 15,000 pounds of trash last year.  Can you believe that!  People dump that much trash out of their boats or off the banks while out enjoying the lake.  Pav said that most of the trash was water bottles, styrofoam cups, and beer bottles.  In the picture above you can even see a tire.  Pav's group found five syringes and needles.  Sad.

After the big cleanup there was a free barbecue lunch and prizes given out for the most interesting piece of trash found.  The kids had a great time, they thought it was like a treasure hunt.  They also took ownership of the job and took pride in helping making the lake look beautiful.
Ever Joy with some litter.  Who knew picking up trash could be so fun?
